Pain Management Services at Community Care of West Milford
Community Care of West Virginia's Pain Management Services was established to give patients who suffer from chronic pain a chance to “get back to life”. We provide a multidisciplinary approach to pain management. This means that we may include other disciplines in your treatment plan--like a physical therapist, neurosurgeon, psychiatrist, or another healthcare provider. We encourage good nutrition, exercise, and healthy living. We encourage our patients to be proactive in their care.
CCWV's Pain Management Services offers people of all ages the hope of leading a productive and enjoyable life. Patients undergo a thorough evaluation to develop an individualized plan of care - which may include injection therapy, nerve blocks, physical therapy, or other options.

Our Objective and Process
The main objective of CCWV's pain management program is to ensure the proper care and treatment of pain. There are potentially thousands of individuals, in pain and without access to proper treatment channels, in and around the CCWV service area. CCWV’s goal is to provide these individuals with much needed appropriate treatment options so they can live healthier and more functional lives.
When pain patients come to a CCWV facility, they receive a thorough assessment of their condition and the need for pain medications. If the patient has not received recent diagnostic confirmation of his/her condition, then a new round of testing may be requested from the patient’s primary care provider. Once that is complete and the results of this testing support a diagnosis of chronic pain, then a referral into the program can be made. If not then alternative means of pain management will be offered and explored, including but not limited to weight loss counseling, referrals to physical therapy, and trials on less powerful and less addicting pain medications. With this process, CCWV ensures that the only patients using strong narcotics are the ones who absolutely need them and CCWV imposes strong controls to ensure that the narcotic medications are being used correctly and not being abused or diverted for criminal purposes. These controls include a vigorously enforced narcotics contract and regular pill counts, urine drug screens, and reviews of the patient’s Board of Pharmacy report.
With the addition of this specialty service, CCWV has established a system of handling the treatment of chronic pain in West Virginia. Pain management is a specialty field, and at CCWV it is treated as such. CCWV's pain program is led by experienced physicians who are well-trained in the handling of pain management issues and the use of pain medicine as a treatment of that pain and certified in pain management. This physician oversees all aspects of this program, including the use of pain medications by CCWV’s other physicians.
