Governor Morrisey Announces over $1.1 Million to Community Care of West Virginia

Governor Patrick Morrisey joined Community Care of West Virginia (CCWV) at their Flatwoods location to announce the award of over $1.1 million through various grants to support the work of CCWV’s programs.

“We’re incredibly thankful and honored to receive so much support from our state and federal government,” said Patricia “Trish” Collett, Chief Executive Officer of Community Care of West Virginia. “As a federally qualified health center, we rely heavily on these awards to implement new and innovative ways to meet the needs of the communities we serve, and further the education of our staff as well as those who wish to enter the healthcare field.”

“Community Care of West Virginia has built a strong record of delivering quality healthcare to rural communities across our state,” said Governor Morrisey. “These investments will build on that work by expanding access to care and creating new opportunities for West Virginians to enter the healthcare workforce and advance their careers. That means better health outcomes, a stronger healthcare workforce, and more West Virginians healthy and able to work.”

These awards will support the following initiatives:

  • Career Ladder Advancement – This program will directly engage with educational partners’ training programs to support CCWV staff in advancing their healthcare career development, ultimately improving the quality of care delivered across West Virginia.

  • Entry-Level Apprenticeship - This program will strengthen West Virginia's overall healthcare ecosystem by minimizing barriers to educational opportunities while ensuring the State has healthcare staff who are highly qualified to deliver accessible care in rural areas. CCWV will directly engage with educational partners' training programs to support individuals entering the workforce by advancing their healthcare career development.

  • Telehealth Upgrade - This allows CCWV to extend its telehealth services by upgrading equipment and immediately increasing the number of providers conducting telehealth appointments through medical, behavioral health, addiction medicine, and school-based services in eight rural counties.

  • Mobile Health Unit - By deploying a Mobile Health Unit, CCWV will directly reach those with the highest needs where physical clinics are not located, ultimately improving the quality of care delivered across CCWV’s service area. Through a Mobile Health Unit, CCWV will deliver high-quality, comprehensive healthcare services that not only treat acute and chronic conditions but also address systemic barriers, enabling rural West Virginians to improve their health and lead fulfilling lives as contributing members of small West Virginia communities.
