Position Title: Certified Pharmacy Technician Trainee
Reports To: Director of Pharmacy, Director of Pharmacy Operations, Pharmacist-in-Charge, and Staff Pharmacist
Position: Full-time

Salary: Based upon qualifications​

Job Objective:
Under direct supervision of a licensed pharmacist, and in accordance with standard departmental procedures, prepare medications for patient use and provide friendly service, treating each patient kindly, with dignity and respect. Participate in a Pharmacy Technician on-the-job training regimen and achieve a national certification within 13 months.

Responsibilities/Duties:
  • Perform duties assigned by a licensed pharmacist. Areas of work are checked routinely for maintenance of quality control. Work is conducted in accordance with generally accepted standards of practice following departmental procedures and policies and applicable laws.
  • Participate in on-the-job Pharmacy Technician training under the supervision of the Pharmacist-in-Charge, including completing on-line coursework and testing.
  • Read and interpret prescriptions received in pharmacy and transcribe same onto pharmacy computer medication profile, work verified by licensed pharmacist.
  • Prepare in accordance with standards of pharmacy practice, reconstitution of medications under direct pharmacist supervision.
  • Prepare in accordance with pharmacy law and standards of pharmacy practice, patient prescriptions to be dispensed after pharmacist approval.
  • Attend and participate in department meetings to exchange ideas in order to achieve goals of the department.
  • Check and remove outdates medications on a routine basis to ensure that no outdated medications are in stock. Keep records appropriately.

  • Safeguard patient data by maintaining HIPAA compliance and disposing of protected health information properly.
  • If unfamiliar with pharmacy procedure or best practice, notify the pharmacist on duty and request training.

  • Ability to be punctual (showing up to work on time, following attendance policy).
  • Demonstrate honesty and be truthful in all aspects of pharmacy.
  
Education and Experience:
  • High school diploma or GED certificate.
  • Participation in Community Care of West Virginia’s Pharmacy Technician Training Program
